My Must-Have Watercolor Supplies (and Why I Love Them)

One of the things I like about working with watercolors is that they are a pretty budget friendly option as far as art hobbies go. If you’re a crafter or creator, you know that art supply costs can add up quickly, am I right? I’m here to help you keep it reasonable and I’ll throw in a splurge here and there too. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Here are some of my favorite watercolor tools & supplies along with some fun gift-giving ideas for the creatively-inclined person in your life:

My Favorite Watercolor Paints - This pan set of watercolor paints has been part of my art supply stash for years now! I love that it has lasted so long. The colors are vibrant and this set gives you plenty of options to work with. It even includes a water brush.

My go-to tube paints - If you are more of a tube-paint kind of person, this set will last you for a long, long time. You can squeeze a little into your palette, let them dry out in between uses and just give them a spritz of water to activate them and use them over and over again. Richly saturated, these paints mix up beautifully and last for ages.

The Cutest Paint Palettes - These ceramic palettes are so durable (don’t ask me how I know!) and adorable. They come in a few different sizes and it’s not uncommon to find a stack of them sitting on my desk at any given time.

Best Watercolor Sketchbooks - These are the perfect size for testing out different ideas and experimenting with your watercolors. I’ve gone through so many of these sketchbooks over the years. They’re budget friendly and decent quality.

Quality Brushes - These are some of my favorite brushes to use. They are on the pricier side, but I promise you they are so comfortable to work with. Their tiny ones (10/0 and 5/0) are my go-to’s for tiny detail work too.

Budget-Friendly Brushes - These brushes are a pretty budget-friendly option if you’re looking to get started in watercolor but want to save a little money before committing fully. This is a wonderful starter set with a good variety of brush sizes and shapes.

Micron Pens - This set of micron pens comes with a variety of sized waterproof pens, perfect for adding some ink details to your watercolor paintings or illustrations. They come with me to every watercolor workshop.

Erasers - My absolute go-to erasers when I’m trying to lift some lead from my sketches, before I start painting. Unlike that little pink eraser on the end of your pencil, these won’t leave streaks or marks on your paper. I swear by these!

White Gel Pens - Every now and then, I like to add some little details in white at the end of my painting. These gel pens are the perfect tool for the job.

Heat Gun - Whether you’re short on time and need to speed up your painting or just a little impatient (no judgment from me - I’m usually a mix of both!) this tool is one to keep close by when you’re painting.

Cute, playful palette - This one combines quirkiness with function. The best of both worlds if you ask me. While I don’t actually own this set I can’t help but think it would be the cutest thing to gift to a fellow artist.

I hope you find exactly what you’re looking for here. If you have questions about supplies or ideas for another art supply post you’d like to see, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
